Yang Bailan's Campaign for Walnut Valley Water District Council Intends to Use Technology to Check Water Leakage and Inspect Expenditure

Have you all experienced this before? Suddenly receiving several hundred yuan water bills, only to realize that the water pipe at home had already leaked, it's really heartbreaking!

There is a candidate named Dennis Yang in the fifth electoral district of Walnut Valley Water District, who said that this kind of thing can actually be warned in advance by data. When he visited the World Journal on the 6th, he said that if he is elected in the future, the key is to examine the expenditure of the water district, find ways to reduce the cost of buying water, and use technology to detect water leaks.

I heard that the election for the seat of directors in this constituency will be held on November 3rd, and the term of office of the elected person will be until December 2028. When Yang Bailan was paying for tickets, a resident complained to him that he only used about 10 yuan of water, but his monthly bill was as high as 50 to 60 yuan, which puzzled him about the basic fee. He also believes that even if the income is not high, people still have to pay fixed fees. The water district should really see if the basic fees can be lowered a bit, especially to take care of low-income families.

But he is also very honest, saying that costs such as labor, energy, and equipment will all change, so he will not make promises that water bills will never increase. But he advocates that the board of directors must figure out why costs have increased, see which money is not worth spending, and which investments will be more expensive if postponed. We need to plan for the long term, and we cannot blame residents for all the problems accumulated over several years at once.

When it comes to reducing the burden, he thinks we need to start with expenses first. Some residents have questioned whether the new office building is necessary and are worried that the water bill may have been used to pay for it. He said that if elected, he would definitely dig deep into the details of the project and budget to see if the money is really being spent on the cutting edge. And we don't have groundwater in our water area, so we rely on buying water from outside. He also hopes to communicate with the higher ups and negotiate more cost-effective conditions for buying water.

For those old pipeline equipment, he believes that they cannot be replaced all over the place, nor can they be repaired only when they break down. The order of updates should be based on the age of the equipment, maintenance records, and the impact of malfunctions. It's best to make a long-term plan of three or five years and push it forward slowly, so that there won't be any last-minute fundraising when things go wrong.

Technology is his old profession! He has been working as the Chief Information Officer at the Motion Picture Association of America for nine years, overseeing technology strategy and information security. He is still the director and financial director of his own community homeowner association (HOA). He said that if smart water meters and historical water usage data can be used, residents can be reminded to check for leaks early when water usage suddenly increases. This way, everyone won't have to suffer in silence. It's really time for technology to help!
