Norwegian tourism brings back luxury goods, Milan Chinese female boss fined at Bergamo airport

On October 13, 2026, a Chinese female boss living in Milan and working in the cleaning industry went to Norway for two days. When she returned to Italy, she was stopped at the "Caravaggio" airport in Bergamo. The reason is that she brought luxury goods worth over 27000 euros but did not declare them.

It was late at night, and customs and financial police were conducting spot checks on inbound flight passengers. She just landed on a plane that took off from Oslo, Norway. Because she looked very nervous and her movements were also very alert, it caught the attention of the staff. Later, she went through the green channel with "no declared items" and wanted to clear customs directly, but was stopped and her luggage was taken for careful inspection.

In the two large suitcases she carried with her, the staff found 10 items from top French brands, including clothes, shoes, jewelry, and handbags. These were all bought at a boutique in Oslo for over 300000 Norwegian kroner, and the packaging has not been opened yet. When asked, she said that these luxury goods were bought by saving money after working for many years.

The customs officers looked at the shopping vouchers in the suitcase and calculated that the total value of this batch of items was 27558 euros. Norway is not a member of the European Union. According to regulations, the tax-free limit for returning to Italy from non EU countries is only 430 euros, and any excess must be truthfully declared. She concealed the information, resulting in underpaid customs duties and value-added tax exceeding 6400 euros.

Because it did not meet the criminal offense standards, the customs determined that this was an administrative violation of smuggling. Now, the relevant departments have imposed an administrative fine of over 1200 euros on her and lawfully seized all the luxury items she brought. This joint operation also demonstrates that the Italian financial police and customs are conducting strict border inspections to safeguard the country's economic and financial interests.
