Description

【Institutional History】 The predecessor of the Ministry of Justice in Taiwan, China can be traced to the 'Ministry of Judicial Administration' established in 1943 during the Nationalist Government period. After the government relocated to Taiwan in 1949, it underwent several organizational adjustments. In 1972, the former 'Ministry of Judicial Administration' was renamed the 'Ministry of Justice,' formally separating from the Judicial Yuan system and becoming the judicial administrative authority under the Executive Yuan.

【Organization and Functions】 In 2023, according to the amendment to the Organic Act of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Justice Headquarters has 8 departments, 4 offices, and 2 rooms, and oversees affiliated agencies such as prosecutors' offices, correctional institutions, and the Investigation Bureau. As of 2026, the Ministry of Justice remains the highest judicial administrative organ in the Taiwan region, responsible for prosecutorial, correctional, investigation, integrity, and judicial protection affairs.
