What should I do if I want to return to my home country? Genoa, Italy launches new service to assist voluntary repatriation!
In order to assist immigrants who plan to return to their country of origin, the Genova municipal government in Italy has decided to increase support for local immigration services. They have specially arranged two professional staff members to be responsible for the "Assisting Voluntary Return and Integration into the Local Area" project, providing targeted guidance and services.
This project is completely voluntary. The government launched it mainly to provide clear and transparent information and personalized assistance, so that immigrants can return home safely and with dignity, and their lives can be stable in the long run after returning home.
This initiative is part of the Faster project, jointly initiated by the International Organization for Migration (OIM), the Italian National Association of Cities (ANCI), and the Cittalia Foundation, with funding from the European Union's "Asylum, Immigration, and Integration Fund" (FAMI). These two professionals will closely cooperate with local social service agencies and various third-party public welfare organizations in Genoa to carry out daily work.
The entire assistance process is very standardized and systematic. It will help everyone prepare various documents and materials needed for returning to their home country, arrange specific travel and transportation, and provide social and economic assistance to help everyone smoothly reintegrate into local life after returning to their home country. Those vulnerable groups who encounter special difficulties and complex situations will become the focus of assistance.
Cristina Lodi, an official in charge of social welfare affairs at the Genoa municipal government, said, "Assisting voluntary repatriation and reintegration is entirely based on individual freedom of choice. It is precisely because this is a significant decision that we need to ensure that everyone has a clear understanding of the relevant procedures and specific benefits, so that they can make clear and transparent choices without any interference
The official hopes to better connect the actual needs of immigrants with the local social welfare and healthcare services in Genoa by equipping these two full-time personnel. At the same time, by leveraging the role of professionals, we can effectively solve some difficult problems and provide the most suitable assistance while fully safeguarding individual freedom of choice.
