Italian Small Package Surcharge Delayed for Fourth Time, How Long Can I Save on Buying Xiyin and Temu?

People who often shop for cheap goods online can breathe a sigh of relief. The Italian government originally planned to impose an additional tax of 2 euros per order on small packages worth less than 150 euros sent from non EU countries. Now this policy has been postponed again, and the official effective date has been changed to January 1, 2027.

This is already the fourth time that the Italian government has postponed this small package tax. The government originally intended to start the collection on December 1st this year, but considering the opinions of relevant enterprises, it has decided to postpone the time through new regulations. The delay made consumers happier for a while, but it also resulted in a loss of revenue for the government. The technical department estimates that after the postponement of this tax, the Italian finance will receive approximately 20.4 million euros less per month. By the end of December this year, the total amount of underpaid taxes will exceed 122 million euros.

But don't get too excited too soon. The 2 euro surtax in Italy has been postponed, but new regulations at the EU level have not stopped. Starting from November 1st this year, the European Union will start charging a "customs processing fee" of 2 euros to subsidize customs supervision and clearance costs. In addition to the previously implemented 3 euro EU tariff, from November 1st to December 31st this year, as long as non EU platform online shopping packages enter customs, they will still have to pay an additional 5 euros per order. The local tax of 2 euros in Italy will not be officially added until next year.
